Boracay Island Map
BEST TIME TO VISIT
The Philippines has only rainy and dry seasons, so speaking when is the best time to visit there, Boracay Island is an all year round destination.I’ve been in Boracay during the rainy season but still, there are thousands of tourists enjoying the Island. I remember when I was talking to one of the locals when I was still living there, he told me there is no LOW SEASON here, we just have PEAK AND SUPER PEAK SEASONS and yeah he was right.
- October-May is the ideal time to visit, that when the northeast monsoon or ‘amihan’ provides the cool air to hot weather and those months have a lot of special events happening in the world. Christmas and New year time are the escaping period for the beach lover and they spent their holiday on the Island.
- February to May: is Summertime in The Philippines, the hottest and the Super peak season of the Island.
- July to Mid November are the Rainy days season where southwest monsoon or ‘habagat’ enters the country and brings rain. NOTE; It doesn’t mean that its rainy season it will rain the whole months, Boracay weather is unpredictable, you may see it in the weather forecast that it will rain but you will find yourself hanging at the beach sunbathing and feels the freaking hot weather.
How to get to the Island
Via plane
The convenient and fastest way you can get to the island is via plane. There are two airports near the island:
- Kalibo International Airport which is 3 hours away from the island. As a budget traveler, I always take my flight to Kalibo Airport If I fly from Manila or Cebu because most of the fare here is cheaper. Good news for the international traveler, there are already direct flights from Malaysia and Singapore going to Kalibo International Airport catered by AirAsia Airline. From Kalibo International Aiport you can take the bus or van going to Caticlan Jetty Port of Caticlan. Otherwise, you can book Southwest Tours Boracay Inc. for a door to door transfers.
- Caticlan International Airport if you don’t like to travel for 3 hours, this airport is the closest and fastest route going to the island. Most flights here are quite expensive, It takes approximately 45 minutes to the island from the Aiport. From the airport take a tricycle going to Caticlan Jetty Port.
Via Bus, Van or Private Car
For travelers who are coming from neighboring Provinces like Iloilo, Capiz, and Antique you may take the bus and van going to the Cagban Port. The fare is mostly around 300PHP each if you take the bus but expects you will have a long journey because they stop every neighboring Province. For Van, if you travel from Iloilo it cost around 500Php for 4-5 hours ride, You can haggle for low fare if you travel by group. Note: You cannot transport your private car in the island. Due to the limited access of the road, the government prohibited and doesn’t allow tourist to bring their own car.
Upon Arriving in Caticlan Jetty Port;
You need to pay the environmental fee for 30PHP, Terminal fee for 70PHP. There are types of Boat transfer you can choose from; Either Aircon or non-aircon boat, Ordinary boat transfer going to the island cost around 30PHP. Boat transfer is 24hours and if you arrive late in the evening or midnight there is aircon ferry that cost around 70PHP. Travel time takes 10-15 minutes from Caticlan Port to Cagban Port in Boracay Island, There you can hire a tricycle to drop you at your hotel.
MODE OF TRANSPORTATIONS
Unfortunately, due to the tight and limited road access, there is no taxi and private cars in the island. Tricycle and motorcycle are the main transportations and they can transfer you all over the island. Tricycle is not allowed on the beach so you need to take a walk. It’s one of my favorite things to do on the island walking in the seashore barefoot. Enjoying the beauty of the beach and the surrounding, besides stations to stations are so close.
Tips: After living the island for awhile, I already know the trick of the driver here. For Foreigners, don’t be a fool if they ask you to pay 100-150 pesos for one ride. Always do the haggle, my Swedish Boyfriend always a victim to this trick, the actual fare is just 10-20 pesos per person. Unless you will take the special ride where no other passenger is riding so you will pay the whole ride.

I’ve read a lot of guides to the island but I’ve never seen anything about Mermaid lessons! What a fun activity! I’d love to try out life as an ocean-dweller!
Boracay looks pretty magical, a beautiful paradise island. Good to know best times of year to visit and also the practicals on travel to reach there and transport once on the island. Your photos really bring it to life. And wow, I’m loving the look of your AirBnB!
Hahahaha Mermaid lessons! That’s great! Very informative guide. This island looks absolutely stunning, a definite must for us when we travel t the Phillipines.
Added Boracay to our bucket list! How beautiful! You do a nice job describing and highlighting the beauty of this island.
Nice info provided. Pictures look amazing, have to put it in travel list
Your pictures are beautiful!
Boracay looks like a perfect island to visit! Love you food recommendations, mmm, love when locals (or those who live there for a while 🙂 ) gives me tips on food. 🙂 Can’t miss!
Wow, what a beautiful place. I must come one day!
I wish I had discovered Boracay before it became a tourist hotspot. It still looks like an amazing place to visit though, even though there are lots of people. What a fabulous beach.
Look at that pan full of food. It looks so delicious. I am heading to Boracay Island soon. I think I will shuttle between stations 1 and 2. Cheers!!
Great article! I’m bookmarking this for when I finally make it to the Philippines 🙂
Right, hand me my backpack … I’m heading there now! A beautifully written guide ? And hell yes for mermaid lessons!
I was in Boracay in 2011 and I loved it. It seems like it is even more, fun today than it was back then.
Thanks for sharing your local insight! I was actually very torn when I visited Boracay because it seemed to me that there was a lot of poverty throughout the actual villages but once you got to the touristy parts it was beautiful beach and 5 star hotels. I only spent a couple of days so I can’t claim that I really got to understand the island – it was beautiful for sure, and everyone was so welcoming and friendly. I guess I hope the local community benefits from the mass tourism which descends upon the beaches 🙂
This is so timely since I’m planning to visit Boracay this year. Your travel guide and tips will surely be a help for me. I like how you include almost everything I need to know before I get to visit Boracay. Thank you so much for sharing this detailed guide with us.
I love this article! Me and my family will be here in November so knowing this is the ideal time to be there is amazing! I feel it would be rude to not try Jonahs fruit shakes whilst on the island so I will be trying them! The spider house is also somewhere I want to experience whilst on the island as it sounds like the perfect getaway restaurant!
This is actually on my list of next 10 places to visit. Friends of mine have recently been there and had a great time even though it is overly touristy. I lived in Bali so I can deal with the over-tourism for white beaches 😀
I was born and raised in the Philippines, but i’ve never been to Boracay! Now that I’m in America, I would love to travel back to the Philippines and definitely stop by Boracay. Thanks for the extensive insight!
These pictures are so dreamy! I’m now off to plan my next vacation!
Boracay is beautiful. But not sure if im going back. It’s just full of tourists. However, this post is really good.
What I wouldn’t give to be relaxing on Boracay Island right now! Those sun umbrellas are the cutest, and I really love your Airbnb, it is so stylish! I need to explore way more of what Airbnb has to offer!
This looks so beautiful! I almost went to Boracay when I was in the Philippines, but my cousin and his wife (who’s Filipino) actually talked me out of it because they said it was SO overrun by tourists. It looks really fun, though, if you’re looking for more of a party scene. Would you agree with that?
yes if you stay in station 2 which is party area for sure you will find mass of tourists, but in station 1 will make you in piece and enjoy the paradise sunbathing
I knew the Philippines has lots of Islands but the exact number came as a real surprise to me. The Boracay Island looks like paradise and there are so many fun activities. Mermaid lessons and Spider house has attracted me the most. I would love to visit the Philippines soon.
If Philippines is like a dazzling crown of natural beauty, Boracay Island must be one of the most shining gems encrusted in it. The natural beauty of the Philippines never fails to amaze me. This is a very useful guide for visitors to Boracay Island. Loved it.
I can’t wait to get to the Philippines. Have had a bunch of friends who have been to various islands including Boracay and loved them all. This seems like a super list and comprehensive guide for a first time visitor and I reckon probably for the lone time lover as well. Thanks!
